Livestock trading report

Open Operations → Reports → Browse all reports → Livestock trading to compare animals bought into and sold out of the selected farm. This is useful for reviewing replacement purchases, calf or cull sales, and beef trading. It reads the animal’s saved purchase price and entry date or sale price and exit date; it does not create a purchase, sale, invoice or payment.

From and To select an inclusive farm-local window. The initial From date attempts to use the same calendar date one year before today; To starts at today and cannot be later than today in the picker. On 29 February, the current initial calculation produces the nonexistent 29 February of the previous non-leap year, so choose a valid From date before relying on the result. From cannot otherwise be later than To. Changing either date reloads the results. A purchase enters the report when its entry date is in the window and a purchase price is recorded. A sale enters when its exit date is in the window and a sale price is recorded. The same animal can appear on both sides if it entered and left during the chosen dates.

An animal without a recorded purchase or sale price is absent from that side, even if it entered or left the farm. This is a priced trading view, not the complete movement ledger or headcount reconciliation. For every arrival and departure, use Herd reconciliation and the animal’s movement history.

Card Meaning
Purchases Sum of recorded purchase prices for qualifying entry-date rows; the smaller line is animal count and average recorded price per qualifying animal.
Sales Sum of recorded sale prices for qualifying exit-date rows, with count and average.
Net position Sales total minus purchases total. A positive figure is labelled Net seller in this window; a negative figure is labelled Net buyer in this window.

Net position is not farm profit. It excludes feed, health, labour, financing and other costs, and it does not value animals still on the farm. The report does not link an individual purchase to its later sale to calculate an animal-level margin.

The two tables have the same four columns: Animal shows the farm tag, name and national ID where recorded; Date is the farm-local exit date for a sale or entry date for a purchase; Category translates the saved exit reason or entry type into a readable label; Value is the saved sale or purchase price. Each table displays 25 rows per browser page with its own table navigation, but the report first downloads every qualifying purchase and sale for the selected period. Narrow a very long or busy period if the report is slow; changing table pages does not make a new server request. The source query orders rows by trade date. There is no download button or editing control on this page.

If one side says No sales in this window or No purchases in this window, widen the dates and inspect source animal records before concluding no animals moved. A loading skeleton means the report is still being fetched; Failed to load the livestock trading report is a request error rather than an empty result. To correct an amount or classification, use the appropriate authorised animal record or movement workflow, then reopen this report.
