Milk price settings

Milk → Milk price records the farm’s dated flat valuation rate per litre. It gives Farmlync a simple value for milk when a report does not calculate a buyer-specific payment. It is a valuation setting, not a record of a buyer payment or a change to a milk delivery.

The two reports linked from this page use the setting differently:

  • Predicted lactation value uses an active standalone quality-adjusted payout formula when one exists. Otherwise, it uses the flat price that applies today.
  • Income over feed cost (IOFC) uses the flat price that applies on the final day of the selected report range. It holds that one price constant across the whole range so the trend reflects changes in milk output and feed cost rather than changes in milk price. IOFC does not currently use the standalone payout formula.

The page opens from the Milk area and from links on those two reports. You need permission to manage milk payouts to save a change.

Control What to enter
Price per litre A number from 0.01 to 999.99, in the organisation’s currently displayed currency, in increments of 0.01. For example, enter 0.42 for 42 pence per litre when the currency is pounds. The current rate and its start date appear below this field when one exists.
Applies from The farm-local calendar date on which that rate begins. It defaults to today for a new entry. Choose an earlier date for a correction or a change that already took effect. A future date is accepted for a scheduled rate, but first record a current rate; a farm whose first and only rate starts in the future cannot retrieve that scheduled row from this page until its start date.
Save milk price Saves a valid change. It is disabled for an invalid price, an unchanged price on the same start date, or while a save is in progress. A success message confirms the save.

The rate runs until the next dated rate begins; there is no end-date field. Saving a new date opens a new period without replacing the previous rate. Saving a date already in the timeline corrects that period. Check the date carefully: using an old period’s date when you mean “the rate changed today” changes historical valuation instead.

The Price history table shows price, From and Until. A dash in Until means no later period closes that rate. Select a row, or focus it and press Enter/Space, to load that period into the form. Change the amount and save to correct it. The page labels the action as a correction when the chosen date already has a price.

If another operator changes the current price after you opened the page, saving can fail with a change/conflict message. The page reloads the latest price; review it and re-enter your intended change rather than assuming your earlier draft was applied. Historical rows do not carry their own browser concurrency token, so coordinate historical corrections with other administrators. If loading itself fails, retry after the connection is restored.

For fat, protein or SNF-adjusted predicted-lactation valuation, follow the payout formula link and configure a Standalone (no buyer) formula. Buyer formulas price deliveries routed to those buyers; they do not replace the farm’s IOFC price. See Payout formulas and Buyers, payout and milk price for the wider payment flow.

The flat-price record does not store a separate currency code. Farmlync displays both current and historical flat prices using the organisation’s current currency setting. If the organisation currency changes, review the price timeline before relying on earlier monetary comparisons.
