Inventory burn-rate forecast

What this page helps you do

Open Operations → Reports → Browse all reports → Inventory burn-rate forecast to find stocked items that may run out soon. It estimates days of usable supply from recent recorded consumption. Use it to prioritise a stock check and purchasing decision; it is a projection, not a purchase order or a guarantee that an item will last that long. For receiving and correcting quantities, use Inventory stock lists and Purchasing.

Only active, inventory-tracked products in the selected farm appear. A catalogue product that is inactive or not inventory-tracked is not a row. The report uses the farm’s local today as the end of its consumption window; it has no custom date picker.

Choose the analysis window

Window offers Last 7, 14, 30 (default), 60 or 90 days. The chosen number includes today plus that many days minus one before today, measured in farm-local calendar days. For example, Last 7 includes today and the preceding six farm-local dates. The server clamps a direct request into a 7–180-day range, while the page only offers the five values above. Changing the window reloads the preview and is sent again when you download a file.

A short window reacts faster to recent use but can make a one-off consumption look like a continuing daily demand. A longer window smooths that spike but may miss a sudden increase. Check actual stock and planned feed or treatment needs before placing an order.

Read the counts and item rows

The three tiles count items, not quantity: Critical (≤7d), Warning (≤21d) and Healthy. An item is Critical when projected stockout is 0–7 days; otherwise Warning at 8–21 days; otherwise Healthy. There is no separate “forecast unavailable” tile, so Healthy also contains products with no calculable days-to-stockout. Do not treat every green item as proof of sufficient stock.

The table is ordered by the soonest projected stockout, with undefined forecasts last. It displays 25 items per page and a Search item, category… box that filters the already returned rows. The columns mean:

Column	Meaning
Item / Category / UoM	Product name, catalogue category and unit of measure. Compare quantities only within a compatible unit.
Usable	Current on-hand quantity that is operationally available minus reserved quantity, summed across the item’s batches. Expired, quarantined and otherwise unavailable batch quantities do not contribute. The page does not show blocked quantity separately.
Avg / day	Net consumption during the selected farm-day window divided by the number of days, rounded to two decimals. Linked returns and consumption reversals reduce the original consumption rather than inflating demand.
Days	Whole days of usable supply, calculated as the floor of Usable ÷ rounded Avg / day when the rounded average is positive. 0 means no usable supply for a consuming item, or a previously stocked item now empty. ∞ means no finite forecast from the current calculation; it does not promise unlimited stock. A small non-zero consumption rate that rounds to 0.00 currently also produces ∞.
Status	Critical, Warning or Healthy according to Days. Undefined/∞ is shown as Healthy by the current report.

The report uses current usable stock against consumption from the selected past window. It does not forecast incoming deliveries, a planned ration change, batch expiry inside the future projection or an individual animal’s medical needs. A previously stocked item with zero usable quantity is Critical at 0 days even when it had no consumption in this window. An item that has never had a current non-deleted batch and has no consumption gets ∞ and Healthy instead of being labelled out of stock. Verify whether that catalogue item was ever intended to be stocked before treating the green status as a supply decision.

Download and follow up

Download PDF and Download XLSX use the selected Window and include the three summary counts and per-item figures. They are unavailable in the read-only support view. A download shows a generating state, then a success or error message. If the inline preview fails to load, the file request may still work. The files contain a Blocked quantity column in addition to the preview’s Usable column; Blocked covers reserved or otherwise unavailable on-hand quantity. The page’s “same table” wording does not mean the exported columns are identical.

For an item marked Critical or Warning, open its stock list and check batches, reservations, expiry and the recorded balance before making a purchase. Then use Purchase List and Purchase Orders for the ordering workflow. A missing or late consumption record can change Avg / day and the forecast, so confirm that routine issues and returns have been recorded.
