Milk overview and records

What this page helps you do

The Milk Production page is the working centre for daily milking. It answers four different questions:

Dashboard: How far through the current milking are we, what was recorded today and which results need attention?
Records: What was recorded for each animal, and does a record need correction or voiding?
Tests: What official animal-day composition and SCC results have been received?
Bulk tank: What whole-session collection was recorded, and does it reconcile with the contributing cow records?

Open Livestock → Milk → Overview. Farmlync uses the farm’s configured milk unit for display. Stored and exported source values may still be expressed in kilograms where the export column says so.

Page-level actions

Control	What it does
View Work	Opens today’s Work page already filtered to the Milk domain.
Record → Record Milk	Opens the single-animal milk form. See Record milk.
Record → Batch Record	Records the same session for several animals. See Batch recording.
Record → Add missing lactation	Starts a lactation that is absent from the selected animal’s history.
Record → Lab Results	Adds composition or SCC values to existing milk records.
Record → Import milk records	Imports the supported general milk-record file.
Record → Import NMR recording	Opens the NMR-specific import flow.
Record → Record Session Collection	Records the milk collected for a whole farm session.
Record → Record Opening Balance	Creates a starting tank lot for milk that existed before it was represented in Farmlync.

The desktop page places these actions in the Record menu. A phone uses the floating + button for the main recording actions. Controls are hidden or disabled when your role, support session or farm session is read-only.

Dashboard tab

Current milking work

The first panel describes the current farm-local milking session.

Value	Meaning
Expected	Active lactations expected to be milked. Withdrawal cows remain in this count because their milking still has to be recorded.
Recorded	Expected cows with a record in the current session.
Remaining	Expected minus recorded, never less than zero.
Withdrawal	Lactating cows under withdrawal. Their yield remains production, but the affected milk is held from sale.
Progress percentage	Recorded divided by expected. It is session completion, not the percentage of milk sold.

The panel can show No milking work, Not started, In progress or Complete. Its main action changes with the state:

Start guided work or Continue guided work opens Execution Mode focused on milk;
Record another remains available after the expected set is complete;
Batch record opens the batch form when at least one animal is expected;
Start lactation appears when there is no active milkable lactation;
Review withdrawals appears instead when withdrawal work still needs attention.

Production pulse

Tile	How to read it
Daily Yield	Today’s recorded herd yield. A dash means no current-day record, not a recorded zero. The change is against the preceding recorded trend point.
Avg / cow	Today’s average yield per recorded cow. A dash means the first recording is still awaited.
Herd SCC	Today’s available herd SCC measure. The colour follows the current value and the active High SCC alert threshold; a dash means no SCC sample is available today.
Month to date	Recorded milk volume for the farm-local calendar month.

Milk recorded under withdrawal still contributes to production totals. The Withheld or Part withheld markers in the Records tab separate the amount that cannot be sold.

Udder-health attention

For farms with Advanced Analytics, Udder-health attention lists cows whose latest official test-day SCC is at or above the active High SCC alert-rule threshold. This is an attention list, not a diagnosis.

Select an animal to open its record.
Show all expands beyond the three highest results.
Open SCC report opens the full SCC report.
Unavailable means the animal-level SCC read failed or has not completed; it does not mean there are no high-SCC cows.

The list deliberately uses the latest official test result. The later SCC-versus-yield scatter needs multiple SCC-bearing dates and must not be used as the definitive attention count.

Quality and value

Latest milk test is the newest day containing composition or SCC samples. Yield-only recording days do not advance this date. The strip shows the test date, how many cows were tested and average SCC when available. Farmlync marks it Overdue after 35 days and offers Record results. View tests opens the Tests tab.

The payout summary beside it uses the configured buyer, route, pricing and collection evidence. Use the linked payout and reconciliation pages before treating it as a final settlement figure.

30-Day Yield Trend

The line is total herd yield by farm-local day over the dashboard window. Hover a point to see:

total yield;
average yield per cow;
recorded cow count; and
average SCC when present.

Red dots identify days whose SCC meets the active High SCC threshold. Selecting the chart opens the Milk Production report.

The text below the chart describes the active Yield Drop alert rule. That operational rule compares an animal with its own earlier same-session observations. It does not classify ordinary changes between consecutive herd-total points on this chart.

Production ranking

The ranking card shows the highest producers and the lowest recorded yields returned by the dashboard. Selecting an animal opens its detail. The low-yield list is context only: being in the bottom group is not, by itself, proof of illness or an alert-rule breach. Open the milk-production report to investigate over a longer range.

Milk quality and herd analysis

Advanced Analytics customers can select Explore analysis. The cards load when the section is opened:

Analysis	What it shows
SCC vs Yield — Last 30 Days	One point per animal, using average daily yield and average SCC. Point size reflects record count. Red uses the active High SCC threshold; select a point to open the animal.
SCC progression	How SCC changes between available test points, helping identify persistent or worsening cases.
SCC distribution	The herd split across SCC bands. Use the underlying animals, not the band alone, for follow-up.
Composition vs yield	Per-animal fat/protein composition against yield where both values exist.
Days in milk	Distribution of the currently represented herd by DIM and its average.
Lactation groups	Average daily yield grouped by lactation number.

Missing points normally mean the required values were not recorded. For example, the SCC-versus-yield chart needs SCC-bearing milk records; a yield-only entry cannot appear in that comparison. Farms without the feature still retain normal recording, totals, records and the 30-day production trend.

Records tab

This tab is the animal-level ledger used for investigation and correction.

Filters and paging

Control	Valid use
From	First farm-local recording date to include.
To	Last farm-local recording date to include.
Session	All sessions or one configured session number.
Sortable headings	Animal, Date, Session, Yield, Fat, Prot, SCC and DIM change server sort order.
Previous / Next	Moves through 20 records per page.

The page defaults to a recent farm-local date window rather than reading the farm’s entire high-volume milk history. Change From and To for the period you need.

Columns and indicators

Column or marker	Meaning
Animal	Farm identity label. Select it to open that cow’s milk trend.
Date	Farm-local recording date. Repeated dates are visually grouped.
Session	Session number, or the special NMR-import label for those records.
Yield	Recorded production in the farm’s display unit. Values below 5 kg-equivalent are marked Low for visibility.
Withheld / Part withheld	All or part of this milking is not saleable. The production value remains recorded.
Fat / Prot	Composition percentages when supplied. A dash means no value was recorded.
SCC	Somatic cell count. High follows the active High SCC rule threshold.
DIM	Days in milk. Hovering the value describes the broad early, mid or late-lactation band.
Source	Origin such as manual entry or import. Official identifies an official-authority record.
Recorded by	The saved conductor/recorder name where available.

Row actions

Correct opens the controlled correction form when the record and current authority allow it.
View trend opens the selected animal’s milk history.
Void records a controlled removal of an eligible observation.
Read only means the record cannot be changed; hover it to read the saved block reason.

Official records and records already used by later milk-safety or commercial evidence can have stricter mutation rules. Do not add a duplicate record to work around a blocked correction.

Select, void and export

The header checkbox selects every correctable record on the current page. It does not select all pages or all filtered records. The sticky action bar can then:

Void selected on this page; or
Export selected on this page as a browser-generated CSV.

Export filtered asks the server for every row matching the date and session filters currently shown, not just the visible page. When the page is using its default recent-date window, the control can be labelled Export all; in that state it still exports all matches inside that displayed window, not the farm’s lifetime milk history. The synchronous export limit is 10,000 rows. If the export is refused, narrow the date or session range. Exporting is unavailable during a read-only support session.

Tests tab

The Tests tab lists official animal-day sample/test records. It supports date, animal and source filtering, test-day detail, correction history, manual lab entry and supported imports. See Collection edits and milk tests for every control and field.

Bulk tank tab

This tab shows whole-session collection lots for a From and To farm-local date range. It is deliberately date-bounded even when the animal Records tab is opened through an all-history URL.

Column	Meaning
Date	Farm-local collection date. When a date has several sessions, the first row also shows their day total.
Session	Milking session represented by the lot.
Yield	Recorded whole-session collection. Same as prev session warns when a later session repeats the exact same non-zero quantity on that date. It is a review prompt, not automatic proof of duplication.
Fat / Prot / SCC	Saved session-level quality values. SCC above 200,000 is red; values above 150,000 up to 200,000 are amber.
Cows	Saved contributor count. A negative marker shows a drop from the preceding displayed session on the same day.
Point	Collection point, when recorded.
Checked	Current lot verification state.

Available actions depend on the lot state and your permission:

Reconcile contributors opens the contributing cow records and allocation evidence;
Verify checks the lot against expected contributors and milk-safety evidence;
Review and release quarantine requires the protected correction authority;
Edit or Delete appears only while downstream use and the lot state still allow it;
Read only provides the saved reason when later evidence prevents mutation.

See Tank collection and milk safety for collection fields, verification, withdrawal allocation, quarantine and disposition rules. A recorded individual yield does not by itself prove that its milk entered a saleable tank.

When the page looks incomplete

No milk data yet: record the first individual milking or import supported records.
Today’s tiles show dashes: verify that records use today’s farm-local date and current session.
No latest test: add composition or SCC results; yield-only entries are not test days.
No advanced chart points: confirm the required SCC/composition values exist and that Advanced Analytics is included in the plan.
A record cannot be changed: read its mutation block reason and use the controlled correction flow rather than duplicating it.
A tank lot is quarantined or needs review: reconcile contributors and withdrawal disposition before release.
