Carcass pricing — create and check a price grid

Beef → Carcass pricing stores price schedules for this farm and offers a calculator for a sample carcass. A grid is a dated rule for estimating gross carcass value; it is not a processor payment or settlement statement. Compare the schedule with the processor’s current agreement before relying on a value. This feature appears on Beef or Mixed farms.

The page lists saved grids with their abattoir name (or Price grid when blank), effective date, base rate, optional maximum payable weight, and grade/fat adjustments. Newer effective dates appear first. Amounts use the organisation’s current currency, although the saved-grid cards and calculator results do not print its symbol. The current page offers New grid; it has no edit, deactivate or delete control for an existing grid, so verify the complete schedule before saving.

Select New grid, complete the slide-over, then Save grid. Creating a grid requires farm Owner or Manager authority.

Control What to enter
Effective from Required farm-local date (yyyy-MM-dd). It defaults to today on the farm. The latest grid whose effective date is on or before a kill date is used for that date.
Abattoir (optional) Free-text name of the plant or buyer for your reference. Check spelling against the schedule; the valuation lookup currently selects by farm and effective date, not by abattoir.
Base price / kg Required non-negative amount in the farm’s currency per kilogram. This applies even when a grade/fat pair has no adjustment cell.
Max payable weight (kg, optional) A positive cap when the processor pays only up to a specified hot carcass weight. Leave blank when there is no cap. This does not change the recorded weight.
Grade × fat adjustments Select a conformation grade and fat class, enter a numeric amount per kilogram, then Add. Positive amounts increase the base rate; negative amounts decrease it; zero is allowed. Make sure no negative adjustment is large enough to produce a negative final price. Add only pairs present on the schedule. Adding the same pair again replaces the draft cell. Use the × on a draft chip to remove it.
Save grid / Cancel Save the dated grid, or leave without saving. The page confirms a successful save.

The grade and fat selectors use Farmlync’s supported carcass catalogue values. A grid may have no adjustment cells. For a grade/fat pair without a cell, the calculation uses the base rate alone. Use only one grid for a farm on any effective date. If several grids share a date, their abattoir labels do not select a schedule and Farmlync does not define which same-date grid wins. Because a saved grid cannot currently be corrected or retired on this page, check for an existing date before saving.

At the top of the page, Value a carcass has three inputs:

Control Meaning
Grade Conformation grade; initial example is R+.
Fat Fat class; initial example is 3.
Hot weight (kg) Positive hot carcass weight; initial example is 340.
Value Calculate using the latest grid effective on the farm’s current date. The page does not provide a historical date or abattoir input for this example.

The result shows Price / kg, Payable wt, Cold wt and Value. Price per kg is base price + that grade/fat cell’s adjustment (or base alone). Payable weight is hot weight capped at Max payable weight if set. Gross value is price per kg × payable weight, rounded to two decimal places. Cold wt is a separate estimated weight; it is not the payable weight in this calculation. If no grid is effective today, the page shows a warning instead of a value.

For an actual animal’s carcass, Farmlync uses the grid effective on the slaughter date, rather than today’s calculator date. Check the Carcasses register and the animal’s Beef tab for the recorded result. Carcass settlement explains how deductions and bonuses change gross value to net proceeds.
