Herd planning and reconciliation reports

Open Operations → Reports → Browse all reports and choose a report. Dry-off forecast turns confirmed pregnancies into a planning list. Herd age profile shows today’s active herd by cattle age and sex. Herd reconciliation explains how entries and exits changed the whole-farm headcount over a period. They answer different questions: a cow appearing in one report need not appear in the others.

Use this dairy report to prepare dry-cow work, housing and feed. It lists animals with a latest positive pregnancy check, a currently Confirmed breeding state, an expected calving date and an active lactation. It does not list every animal recorded as pregnant if the lactation needed for a dry-off action is absent. The predicted dry-off date is the farm-local expected calving date minus the configured dry-period days. The tenant setting can be overridden for the farm; the common default is 60 days. The page’s fixed “60-day” introductory text does not reflect a changed setting, so use the generated report’s Dry period value when planning.

Lookahead initially shows Next 90 days (default). You can choose Next 30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 days. Changing it reloads the preview and downloads for that window. The qualifying expected calving date runs from today through the chosen lookahead plus the configured dry period, in farm-local calendar time. As a result, a predicted dry-off date can be in the past by up to the dry-period length and still appear. A negative Days value means the predicted date has passed; it is not a completed dry-off. Check the animal record and Work list before acting.

Preview control or value Meaning
Due ≤30 days Count of returned animals whose predicted dry-off is in 30 days or less, including overdue dates.
31–60 days, 61–90 days Counts in those respective future bands.
Cows due for dry-off All qualifying rows in the selected window, ordered by predicted dry-off date. With a 180- or 365-day lookahead, additional rows are labelled >90 days and are not included in the three headline tiles.
Animal Tag, name and national ID where available. Select the animal to inspect its pregnancy, lactation and health records.
Expected calving Farm-local date from the latest positive pregnancy evidence while the breeding state remains Confirmed.
Predicted dry-off Expected calving minus the configured dry-period days. This is a forecast, not a saved dry-off event.
Days and Bucket Calendar days from farm-local today to predicted dry-off, and its planning band.
Search animal, bucket… Searches the loaded preview table. Its pagination shows 25 rows per page; it does not change report eligibility.

Download PDF produces a printable schedule with the three bucket counts and the core animal/date columns. Download XLSX includes a Forecast sheet with those rows plus latest yield, latest and previous SCC, body condition, withdrawal flag and withdrawal end where available; its Summary sheet includes the dry-period setting and counts. These extra spreadsheet columns are not shown in the preview. A preview-load error does not necessarily prevent a download. Downloads are unavailable while viewing through read-only support access. Neither download records a dry-off; use the dry-off recording guide when the event actually occurs.

Use this report to see whether the active herd is weighted towards youngstock, replacements or mature cattle. It is a point-in-time snapshot as of the farm-local date shown below the title. There is no date selector, export or animal-level drill-down on this page. The source includes non-deleted animals whose status is Active in the selected farm; departed animals are excluded.

The stacked bar chart has one bar per age band. Its coloured segments are Steer, Male and Female counts; the number above a bar is that band’s total. Point to a segment to see the three sex counts and total. The vertical axis is number of animals, not a percentage. The table immediately below gives the exact Female, Male, Steer and Total counts for every band; All bands sums them. A dash in a band cell displays zero.

Age band Whole completed months from birth date to the farm-local report date
Calf (0–6m) 0 through 5 months.
Weaned (6–12m) 6 through 11 months. This is an age label, not proof that a weaning event was recorded.
Yearling (12–24m) 12 through 23 months.
2-year (24–36m) 24 through 35 months.
Mature (36m+) 36 months or more.

Age changes only when an animal completes a calendar month in the farm timezone. A registered animal with an incorrect birth date or sex changes the distribution; check its animal record if a bar looks unexpected. If no active animals are present, the page shows No active animals rather than an all-zero chart.

Use this whole-herd report to explain how the animal records roll forward from an opening count to a closing count. From and To are inclusive farm-local dates. The initial range normally runs from the same calendar day one year before today through today. On 29 February, the current browser calculation can construct 29 February in a non-leap prior year and fail to load until you choose a valid From date. Choose From no later than To; To cannot be later than farm-local today in the page. Changing either date reloads the results. This is not the separate Milking and dry herd flow report, which follows production groups.

Row or message How it is calculated and used
Opening balance Non-deleted animals that entered before the start of From and had not exited at that instant.
Ins Animals with an entry date during the selected days, grouped by entry type (for example birth or purchase). The group total is the sum of those lines.
Outs Animals with an exit date during the selected days, grouped by their resulting animal status. The group total is the sum of those lines.
Closing balance Opening balance + total Ins − total Outs.
Reconciled The computed closing balance equals a second end-of-window count over the same current animal table. This confirms that the stored entry and exit chronology rolls forward consistently; it is not an independent physical or registry count.
Mismatch The two calculations over the animal table differ. Inspect impossible or overlapping entry/exit dates and corrections that changed the chronology. The page does not resolve the difference automatically.

The start and end instants use the farm timezone. An entry or exit on To belongs to this report; one on the next farm-local day does not. An animal can enter and exit during the selected window, contributing to both sides without changing closing headcount. If no event belongs to a group, the page says No animals entered or No animals left rather than inventing a category. Because every number comes from Farmlync’s current animal rows, an animal that was never registered is absent from both sides and can still leave a Reconciled result; an internally consistent duplicate can do the same. Compare the result with an independent physical or registry count when proving herd completeness. The report shows counts and category labels, not individual animal rows; use Animals list and Departures to investigate the underlying records.
