Transition and udder-health reports
What these pages help you do
Section titled “What these pages help you do”Open Operations → Reports → Browse all reports. Transition / fresh-cow health compares treatments after calving. Udder health — mastitis shows recorded mastitis cases and an SCC trend. Both are retrospective summaries for discussing patterns with your vet or farm team. Neither chart diagnoses an animal or replaces its treatment and milk-safety record.
Both pages have From and To date pickers. They initially span approximately the preceding 12 months through farm-local today. The chosen calendar days are inclusive; an invalid range shows a message and does not load the report. The server accepts a window of at most five years. Current limitation: the page checks only that To is not before From, so a longer selection is sent and then appears as the generic Couldn’t load the report for this window error. Reduce the period to five years or less before retrying. Changing the dates reloads the page’s figures. Neither page has a download control.
Transition / fresh-cow health
Section titled “Transition / fresh-cow health”This report starts with calving events recorded in the selected period. It then looks for treatment records for the same animal from that calving instant until less than 30 elapsed days afterward. A treatment in that follow-up period can be included even when its date is beyond the selected To date. If an animal has more than one calving in a long window, the report’s counts follow the calving events; they should not automatically be read as distinct lifetime animals.
The recorded disease text is matched to these displayed categories: Milk fever, Ketosis, Retained placenta, Metritis, Displaced abomasum and Mastitis. For example, hypocalcaemia text maps to Milk fever and LDA text maps to Displaced abomasum. Unmatched or absent disease text goes to Other. This is a name-based grouping of treatment records, not a coded clinical diagnosis or a search for untreated disease.
| Page element | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Fresh cows (calvings) | Number of calving events in the selected window. This is the denominator for the disease percentages. |
| With a transition disease | Calving events followed by at least one treatment in one of the six named categories. Its percentage divides by calving-event count. A calving with two named conditions contributes once to this tile. |
| Other post-calving treatments | Calving events with an unmatched treatment in the follow-up period. This can overlap the named-disease tile; do not add the two tiles to obtain total calvings. |
| Incidence by disease | Horizontal bars show affected calving events in each named category divided by all calvings, as a percentage. The tooltip shows the count and percentage. One calving can appear in more than one disease bar. |
| By disease | Exact counts and one-decimal-place percentages behind the bars, including a displayed zero for a named category with no matching record. The Other category is shown in its headline tile, not this six-row table. |
Select a non-empty disease bar or underlined table row to open the fresh cows panel. It lists the linked animals with identity details and a link to each animal record. The panel identifies animals behind the category; it does not show every treatment or prove which diagnosis is current. If the report says No calvings in this window, widen the dates or check that calvings were recorded before treating all-zero disease counts as a health result.
Udder health — mastitis
Section titled “Udder health — mastitis”This report counts non-deleted mastitis records detected during the selected farm-local dates. Its percentages and SCC line use different source records, so compare them with their own denominators.
| Headline card | What it means |
|---|---|
| Clinical incidence | Clinical mastitis records ÷ Cows at risk × 365 ÷ selected calendar days × 100, displayed as cases per 100 cows per year. It is annualized; values can exceed 100 when repeated cases occur. A dash means the denominator is zero. |
| Clinical cases | Mastitis records whose type is Clinical. The subtext gives all mastitis records in the window, including other types. |
| Cows affected | Distinct animal IDs with any mastitis record in the window. Its percentage divides by Cows at risk. |
| Recurrent (chronic) | Distinct animals with more than one mastitis record in the window, regardless of whether each record is clinical. Its percentage divides by Cows affected. This is a recurrence flag, not a veterinary chronic diagnosis. |
Cows at risk here is the count of distinct animals with an active milk recording in the selected dates. It is not a historical average of all lactating cows, nor a count of animal-days at risk. The mastitis numerator is not restricted to that same set: a recorded mastitis case for an animal with no eligible milk record still increases the case and affected counts without increasing Cows at risk. The displayed percentages can therefore exceed 100 for reasons other than repeated cases. If milk recording coverage is incomplete, the clinical-incidence and affected percentages can be misleading. Review the recorded case count and milk-record coverage before using these rates externally.
The Herd SCC trend (monthly average) line groups eligible milk records by month. Each plotted value is an average of their SCC values weighted by recorded milk yield; records need an SCC value and a positive yield. The tooltip gives the monthly value and number of contributing milk records (“tests”). The dashed 200k line is a fixed visual reference. It is not a measured bulk-tank sample, despite the page’s introductory bulk-tank wording. A month with no eligible data has no plotted point; a low trend does not rule out an affected individual cow. For cow-level test detail, use the SCC report.
By severity and By pathogen group all mastitis records in the window. Each row shows case count and its percentage of the total mastitis records, not of cows. Empty severity is labelled Unspecified; empty pathogen is Unknown. A clickable underlined row opens the affected cows panel, with distinct animal identities and links to their records. Multiple cases for one cow can increase the row count while that cow appears once in the panel. No cases in window means no mastitis rows matched the selected dates. Use the animal’s health records to inspect a case before choosing follow-up work.
