Lifecycle and movements
Why use this guide
Section titled “Why use this guide”Lifecycle follows the major changes in an animal’s time on the farm. Use this guide to find the right event form and verify that calving, weaning, dry-off or exit changed the animal’s state as intended.
Find your task
Section titled “Find your task”| To do this | Follow this guide |
|---|---|
| Review due lifecycle work and history | Lifecycle dashboard and transition work |
| Record a birth and register calves | Record a calving |
| Wean one animal or a selected batch | Weaning recording |
| Dry off one animal or a selected batch | Dry-off recording |
| Record an animal exit or an internal farm move | Animal departure or Internal farm transfer |
| Follow the full sequence of lifecycle work | Lifecycle workflow |
Lifecycle records explain what happened to an animal and when. They are more than a label on the animal: a calving, dry-off or exit can affect work lists and reports. Open the correct farm and animal before recording an event.
Review the lifecycle page
Section titled “Review the lifecycle page”Open Farm → Lifecycle. The page shows stage composition, upcoming calvings, weaning and dry-off work, and an event history. Choose the relevant time window or event filter to narrow the work list. Select an animal to review its detail before recording. The forecast is a prompt for action; it is not an event already completed.
Record an event
Section titled “Record an event”Use the Record menu on Lifecycle, or open the animal and use its lifecycle action. The available actions include Record Calving, Record Dry-off, Record Weaning and stage changes. In each form, check the selected animal, enter the actual event date and the requested event-specific details, then save. Return to the animal’s Lifecycle section or the Lifecycle history to verify the new entry and stage.
For calving, check dam and calf details carefully; this save registers the live calves and starts the dam’s next lactation together. Dry-off changes a lactating animal’s stage; check current milk records and expected calving date before saving. Weaning should be recorded when it occurs, rather than merely because it appears on a due list.
Work through many due animals
Section titled “Work through many due animals”Filter the upcoming work to Weaning or Dry-off. Select the intended rows; Select all refers to the rows in the current filtered work list. Choose Batch wean or Batch dry-off, review each animal and the shared details, then submit. Check the result list for rejected rows instead of assuming every selected animal changed. Use the single-animal action where animals need different dates or explanations.
Record an exit or transfer
Section titled “Record an exit or transfer”On the animal detail, choose Record Exit to record a sale, cull, death or other departure using the choices shown on the form. Enter the true date and relevant destination or reason. The animal remains in historical views. A cull decision alone does not record the physical exit. For a move between farms in the same organisation, use Transfer farm on the animal detail and check the destination farm afterward. For inbound registry movements, use Animals → Inbound and follow the provider-specific confirmation shown there.
Correct a mistake
Section titled “Correct a mistake”Find the event in the animal’s Lifecycle history and use the available edit or correction action. A completed movement or regulated event may have stricter correction rules than a note. Read the form’s message; do not create a second event merely to hide the first. If the action is unavailable, ask a farm administrator to review permissions and the event status.
